Brief Bio
Antwon was born August 7, 1972 and raised in North Carolina. He remembers precisely when he decided to become a stylist. As a teen, he saw a TV commercial that changed his life — a Vidal Sasson commercial. “Here was this man holding a rich, wonderful cascade of hair with an intense sheen,” Antwon recalls. “And he was saying, ‘If you don’t look good, we don’t look good.’ Well, that was it for me. I was mesmerized, and I knew right then and there what I wanted to do for my life.” He started learning his craft immediately, and practicing on women throughout the neighborhood.
He earned a cosmetology degree in Durham, and underwent more training in Chicago, New York, Florida, Atlanta, and Virginia – wherever the best classes were offered and the toughest styling jobs were to be found. Among his greatest early influences was John Atchison, who taught Antwon all about precision cuts. Back in North Carolina, women truly appreciated Antwon’s expertise. He worked as a salon stylist for two decades at Inflight Salon in Durham. He also become the top stylist at North Carolina Fashion Week. One year, he was called upon to style every model in the show.
