Meet Legendary Film Director Stanley Chinedu Acholonu



Stanley Chinedu Acholonu is the CEO &FOUNDER -SMUTKUT ENTERTAINMENT MOVIES & DOCUMENTARIES,  a graduate of Mass Communication from IMT Enugu- specializing in film directing and scripting. Stanley also studied Television Production Techniques and TV programming from the TV College at the University Of Jos Nigeria (2002). Attended Academy Press a renowned center for printing excellence to study Magazine Printing. Chinedu attended Darwin Technologies, a website Development center in Lagos for Computer Technologies in 2002. Studied Television Journalism at the Nigerian Television House on Victoria Island Lagos after Graduating from Mass Communication career. Stanley is a prolific writer, Television journalist, book reviewer, TV/Film director and a research fellow. A Multi-Media –  Practitioner whose hobby is – Playing chess watching Hollywood classic movie – and writing poems also a fashion icon.

Mr. Achalaonu is an award winning film/TV director of an international repute, a member of Nigerian Union of Journalists, a founding member the Guild of Television Producers & Directors of Nigeria GOTPAD 2002.

In 2004, Stanley directed and co-scripted the first 26 episodes of a Media co-opt Project for the US State Dept, the Nigerian Television Authority NTA & the Royal Marble Concept, a ground-breaking international documentary in diaspora, running through USA, Europe and Africa. 

Stanley’s directorial credits include; “ My Drug Brother” 2005, “ The Governor’s Gift” “ Black Roses” Caught In The Web” “ Lost In A Moment “ Blind-Folded “  One Life to Live “ did series of mini docu for UNICEF Nig. The Los Angeles Nollywood film Association proudly hex onored Stanley with the 2013 LANFA Movie Achievement Awards for his outstanding resilience in promoting and nurturing the development of NollywoodUSA film industry. He also nurtured and groomed the foundation casts of Houston Nollywood film Practitioners back in 2005 under Papa Gee film production. Award winning documentary for the United States Government & the Nigerian NTA, which was a brain child of the ROYAL MARBLE CONCEPT titled “ Echoes from the Valley” produced by Ifeoma David Ezinwa in 2004 won many awards and was a Block buster for Africa Largest Television Network in 2004/2005.

In  2011, Stanley received the coveted award for Nollywood people’s choice director award category at the NAFCA 2011, that same year, he also won the best  NollywoodUSA film Director from NFB AWARDS 2011 for his outstanding resilience in promoting and nurturing the development of NollywoodUSA film industry & in the coverage of diasporal events in his Houston social & economic community events for NTA International/TV Enterprise and among others. Apart from being an international award film director, Stanley is a flamboyant writer, Magazine editor, TV Journalist & documentary producer.

Stanley is currently a foreign Media Producer/ Director representing the Nigerian Television Authority NTA( TV Enterprises) the largest African TV Network @ its Houston Annex. He is a feature writer for the US Embassy Magazine in Nigeria ‘ CROSSROADS “ Vol. 11 no.4 pg 12 titled “ Is this the American Dream ‘( 2004). Stanley is Book review Columnist for several published books, his most celebrated review is an encyclopedic book titled “Nigerian Historic Almanac and book of facts “distributed to all Nigerian Embassies around the world.

In 2002, Stanley won the Producer of the Year Award @NTA HQ. Lagos.
Stanley scripted, produced and directed mini Documentary series titled “IMAGES” for International Organizations like UNICEF, URTNA which captures the social economic and environmental aspects of life in Nigeria and Africa. “The Nigerian Film Industry” An Overview Appraisal of Its Roles, transmitted in 2003. “ The Art of Ceramic Pottery Making In Nigeria”

Stanley is currently working on a groundbreaking documentary on the story of Nollywood –titled; “ NOLLYWOOD AN AFRICAN EXPERIENCE”. He has been in the forefront of developing and nurturing Nollywood films and practitioners in the united states since 2005 when he directed & screen-played his first Nollywood USA Movie starring Desmond Elliot- titled “ My Drug Brother” Under the Guild of African Movie Producers Association of America GAMP, My Drug Brother”  was entered for the 15th Pan Africa FILM festivals in 2007 and is currently being screened on Mnet African films Network, his other movies include; Documentary- “ Echoes from the Valleys “ 2004, One Life To Live – 2009,The Governor’s Gift” 2009, Caught In the web – 2011, Black Roses – 2011, Blind-Folded – 2013 ( Screenplay & Co-directed with Ikechukwu Onyeka) Acted in these movies – ( CAGED – as Mr. HUMMA with JJ Bunny) Acted in ( THE FALL GUY” as a Mob-Manager in a gangster film -2013).

In August of 2013, the Los Angeles Nollywood Film Association  LANFA recognized Stanley’s body of works and his passionate contributions in the development and nurturing of the nascent Nollywood USA Film Industry & his dynamism in works that projects positive images of Nigeria & Africa within the Diaspora, thereby awarding him with the “ Movie achievements Award” that was the crowning glory of Stanley’s movie career.
