Nkem DenChukwu's Biography


Nkem DenChukwu was born in the Eastern part Nigeria on July 4th. She is the sixth of seven children to Igwe DenChukwu and Victoria DenChukwu. She migrated to the United States in 1994 and earned her bachelor's degree in Computer Networking and her master's degree in Health Services Administration, from Strayer University in Washington, DC, while living in Maryland. 

She co-authored The Unstoppable Woman's Guide to Emotional Well-Being, in January 2012 with 22 other females authors and Life Coaches. Her first solo book, Tribal Echoes; a book about restoring hope to the African culture, was published in April 2012. Nkem believes that childhood orientation helps shape or destroys a child’s life. Therefore, she decided to create children’s book series to inspire every child. She released ZOE (the first of many series) in November 2013. Annise Parker, Mayor of Houston endorsed the book, ZOE. “ALLEY-GATORS: The bullies of Poughkeepsie,” is her second series scheduled for release before March 2014. The series is titled LIFE.

Nkem has a flare for writing inspirational and creative verses. She also writes columns on “Straight Talk” for Trendy African Magazine (Dallas, Texas), and Life & Times Magazine (Los Angeles, CA). She also has a flare for photography. One of her photographs won a photography award as one of the finalists for the “ 2013 Photography Vibes” contest and published in Photography Vibes Book.

In 2012, she joined a fledging group of filmmakers; Street Corner Films, that specialize in Independent Film Production with Nollywood Genre as their backdrop. Nkem was featured on ABC 13 Eyewitness News Houston, FOX 26 News Black Voice, VOA (Voice of America), and MJWJ Talk Radio Show, to talk about her first solo outing as a producer of Gem of the Rainforest, the ultimate African Action-Adventure Film by the legendary Writer/Director; Don Okolo, featured Ramsey Nouah, Joe Grissafi, Kae Shakir, Perez Egbi and other talented actors. And in 2012, she also produced PAGE 36 written/directed by Don Okolo. Nkem is a 'Hands-on-Micro-Manager.' Come August 2014, Nkem's latest feature film "Pound of Flesh" will be select Theaters.

Considering Nkem has been living in the States for 19 years and counting, she is one of those African parents proud and glued to her roots, making sure that her children know and always remember where they are from, while appreciating what makes them Africans. Her daily dose of inspiration is to inspire others. Even a smile, she says makes a difference.

Nkem loves to cook, especially exotic African dishes. She is known among friends for her creativity in healthy cooking. She embraces every challenge that faces her knowing that God is not far from her. “Each day is an opportunity to be a better individual,” she says. Nkem is a determined, dedicated, focused, and empowered woman, with a positive mindset. One of her greatest desires is to be the best that she can be, against all odds. She lives in Sugar Land, Texas, with her family.
